چکیده
To better understand precursors of dicarboxylic acids in ambient secondary organic aerosol (SOA), we studied C4–C9 present SOA formed from the oxidation toluene, naphthalene, α-pinene, and isoprene. were analyzed by offline derivatization gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. We revealed that C4 including succinic acid, maleic fumaric malic DL-tartaric meso-tartaric acid are produced photooxidation toluene. Since barely occurs nature, it is a potential tracer photochemical reaction products. In particles also detected compound its isomer with similar mass spectra to methyltartaric standard; tentatively identified as 2,3-dihydroxypentanedioic isomers. The ratio C4–C5 total toluene had no significant dependence on initial VOC/NOx condition. Trace levels during naphthalene. Malic was α-pinene A trace amount

Nitrate radicals and biogenic volatile organic compounds: oxidation, mechanisms, and organic aerosol
Oxidation of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOC) by the nitrate radical (NO3) represents one of the important interactions between anthropogenic emissions related to combustion and natural emissions from the biosphere. This interaction has been recognized for more than 3 decades, during which time a large body of research has emerged from laboratory, field, and modeling studies. NO3BVOC ...

Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation from the photooxidation of an anthropogenic (1,3,5-trimethylbenzene) and a biogenic (alpha-pinene) precursor was investigated at the new PSI smog chamber. The chemistry of the gas phase was followed by proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, while the aerosol chemistry was investigated with aerosol mass spectrometry, ion chromatography, laser desorp...

Gasand aerosol-phase measurements of oxidants, biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and organic nitrates made during the Southern Oxidant and Aerosol Study (SOAS campaign, Summer 2013) in central Alabama show that a nitrate radical (NO3) reaction with monoterpenes leads to significant secondary aerosol formation. Cumulative losses of NO3 to terpenes are correlated with increase in gasand...

The ability of a complex mixture of organic compounds found in secondary organic aerosol (SOA) to act as a photosensitizer in the oxidation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) was investigated. Different types of SOAs were produced in a smog chamber by oxidation of various biogenic and anthropogenic VOCs. The SOA particles were collected from the chamber onto an inert substrate, and the result...
متن کاملFormation of anthropogenic secondary organic aerosol (SOA) and its influence on biogenic SOA properties
Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formation from mixed anthropogenic and biogenic precursors has been studied exposing reaction mixtures to natural sunlight in the SAPHIR chamber in Jülich, Germany. In this study aromatic compounds served as examples of anthropogenic volatile organic compound (VOC) and a mixture of α-pinene and limonene as an example for biogenic VOC. Several experiments with exc...
